FILM JOURNALS & REVIEWS

In the Dune universe, Salusa Secundus is a world with a dark reputation. It started out as the glorious homeworld of the Padishah Emperor's House Corrino. However, a devastating conflict left the planet scarred and uninhabitable. The Corrino family was forced to abandon their ancestral seat and establish a new capital elsewhere.  Salusa Secundus wasn't left to waste though. In a cruel twist, the harsh environment and remnants of its past became the perfect backdrop for a new purpose - an Imperial Prison Planet.  Here, prisoners face not only a dangerous world but also brutal conditions and the possibility of being forced into the ranks of the Sardaukar, the Emperor's elite and feared warriors.

SALUSA SECUNDUS

THUMPER

In the harsh desert world of Arrakis, also known as Dune, the Fremen have developed a unique tool called a thumper. This seemingly simple device, described as a stake with a spring-loaded mechanism, plays a crucial role in their relationship with the colossal sandworms that dominate the landscape. By planting the thumper in the sand and activating it, the Fremen create rhythmic vibrations that travel through the ground. These vibrations act as a beacon for the sandworms, who are sensitive to such disruptions. This allows the Fremen to employ thumpers strategically. They can use them as a diversion, luring the sandworms away from a specific location.  More impressively, the Fremen, the only known sandworm riders,  use thumpers to attract these massive creatures for the purpose of riding them across the vast desert.  The thumper thus becomes a vital tool for the Fremen, allowing them to navigate the dangers and opportunities presented by the sandworms.

Here she waited for sandworms because Fremens are trained to travel using sandworms. Suddenly, the people sent by the emperor just caught her and were about to kill her, but just before her death, she beat the sand like a thumper to attract sandworms there. Suddenly, sandworms came and ate the whole team of the emperor, including herself.

Paul and Jessica were flying, and suddenly, the other enemies followed them. A desert storm was coming, but Paul had no other option, so he flew his Ornithopter into the storm. The others who followed him just flew back. The storm broke the Ornithopter's leaf.

Suddenly, Paul got another visual through his mind. A person is talking to him and told him a way, when we live our life, we need to go through its flow when we oppose it, something happens that we don't think. Actually, he doesn't know this person, but he is a Fremen. According to his voice, Paul turned off the Ornithopter and went through the flow of the storm. Their aircraft got thrown away by the storm, and they escaped from there and went through the desert. They didn't know where to go. They tried to survive there, so they wore the suits they got in kits. And they moved throughout the desert, believing that they could travel and go to their own planet, Caladan. Here, Paul taught Jessica how to sandwalk. Suddenly, he heard some sound; the sandworm was coming. They ran for their lives. Suddenly, the sandworm came in front of Paul, and it stood in front of him, and the scene felt like the sandworm was having a conversation with Paul. Then it just went off from there. Then they understood someone was following them; actually, they were just redirected by the way of the sandworm.

They both again walked by thinking of it. Suddenly, they came near a rock, and they heard some sound. When they looked up, there were so many people sitting on the rocks; actually, these were the people in the secret society called seitch in the Fremen community. And there was Stilgar also (the character Stilgar is the leader of this society).

A man from the group came forward and said, "We can kill both; we need only the water of their body." But Stilgar said, "We can kill the lady; the boy is young, we can train him and join him in our group." The man came forward to kill her. Suddenly, Jessica attacked them like a fighter, and a knife was placed on Stilgar's neck. Actually, we know Jessica was not an ordinary woman. She is a person from the Bene Gesserit, so she is so powerful. Here Stilgar underestimates Jessica. Finally, he agreed that he will take you both with them. Suddenly, Paul heard a sound, a girl. He turned; he was shocked; it was the girl continuously appearing in his dreams. In this while, Stilgar agrees to make Jessica and Paul join with them, but only one person from their group dislikes it; his name is Jamis. Jamis confronts Stilgar and told him, "You're not supposed to be a leader. You just failed in front of a woman.

Jamis asked for amtal.

Here, the Lord Baron sent his minister to the Emperor and requested two battalions of armies from the Emperor's side to help them defeat the Atreides. So, the entire army is getting ready to move to Arrakis.

Next, in Arrakis, Duke suddenly gets stabbed. Duke asks his wife Lady Jessica to protect their son as much as she can because enemies are everywhere. Jessica promises him.

Duke goes to sleep, but suddenly hears some sounds and goes to see what is happening. The guards are killed by someone; actually, the armies sent by the Harkonnens are already in Arrakis. Suddenly, Duke gets stabbed from behind, and it's done by the doctor who was already there, looking after Paul. He is a spy from the Harkonnens, forced to do this because they kidnapped his wife. But he is a good guy; he promises to give his ring to Duke's son Paul. However, he is forced to kill Duke. The doctor replaces Duke's teeth with a poisoned one that can spread poison everywhere when biting.

So, when Duke is brought near to the Baron, he can easily kill him by biting his teeth and spreading the poison.

Meanwhile, Duncan is there and kills many enemies. He tries to save Paul and Jessica, but they are already caught by the Harkonnens. They are tied in aircraft. Jessica's mouth is tied because they know she has the ability to use the voice, but they don't know Paul can. Paul tries to use it but fails, and finally, he uses his voice to command his mother to untie herself, and they escape.

While escaping, they pick up kits for survival in the desert. In the meantime, the Harkonnens destroy the entire Atreides.

Now, Duke is brought in front of the Lord Baron, not conscious. The doctor comes forward and asks the Baron about his wife, saying he did his job well. But the cruel Baron kills him because he already killed his wife. The Baron approaches Duke, and Duke bites him with the poisoned teeth, spreading poison throughout the room. Some die, but the Baron survives.

In the desert, Jessica and Paul are alone. They set up a tent with the amenities inside the kit and sit inside. While looking for other things, Paul finds the ring placed by the doctor.

Inside the ring is a note stating that Duke is dead and to send this message to Paul Atreides if anyone finds the aircraft and the ring. Paul realizes he is the next king and remembers his father's words: "A Great Man doesn't seek to lead, He's called to it."

Now Paul sees the next vision in his mind: a war is happening, and many are killed and burned. The whole war is led by Paul himself, and most importantly, he sees that his eyes are blue. The morning after, Duncan meets with Dr. Kynes and asks her if she is aware of all these things, suggesting she has come to destroy them. She denies knowing anything about it.

Jessica and Paul are walking through the desert, unsure of where to go. Suddenly, they see Duncan approaching them. He takes them to Dr. Kynes, who has a hideout where they can stay.

The place resembles a lab, with some plants. This scene is significant, but it is not explored much in Dune Part One; perhaps there will be more exploration in the sequel.

Here, Paul asks Dr. Kynes if the Emperor orchestrated all these events just to destroy them. He suggests that she could reveal the truth to others, but she refuses, fearing it would lead to a war between the planets under the Emperor's rule, causing more deaths. Paul then proposes another idea: opposing the Emperor and winning the election since he only has a daughter. Dr. Kynes warns Paul that the Emperor will not spare them and will kill them both. The people sent by the Emperor arrive at the hideout. Duncan sacrifices himself to protect his king, allowing Jessica and Paul to escape. Despite Paul's efforts to help, Duncan is killed by the soldiers, fulfilling the visual Paul saw in his dream. Dr. Kynes guides Jessica and Paul through a secret way to find an Ornithopter, explaining that its seating capacity is only two, so she cannot go with them. Instead, she heads outside through another way and places a thumper to attract sandworms.
